Area C Carpark Upgrade and Spray Seal Surfacing Works

Two dump trucks and a road roller paving asphalt on a remote highway near dry hills and railway tracks.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

The Area C Carpark Upgrade required the delivery of spray seal surfacing works within an active mining environment, where programme certainty and quality outcomes were critical to the project’s success. Shortly after mobilisation, a significant wet weather event impacted site conditions and delayed the commencement of sealing activities. The project team was required to carefully manage drying periods and coordinate closely with the client to ensure pavement conditions met specification requirements before works could proceed. Maintaining programme momentum while managing weather-related disruptions required flexibility, clear communication and a strong commitment to client outcomes.

  • Delivering surfacing works within an operational mining environment
  • Managing wet weather delays immediately following mobilisation
  • Coordinating dryback testing and approval processes before sealing works
  • Maintaining programme certainty despite changing site conditions
  • Meeting quality and safety requirements within a compressed delivery window

PROJECT SOLUTION

Roadform’s team successfully delivered the prime and single coat spray seal package for the upgraded carpark facility at BHP Mining Area C. The scope included the application of an emulsion prime and 10mm single coat seal utilising C170 binder across approximately 17,480m² of pavement. Despite weather-related delays, the team maintained a collaborative approach with the client and absorbed associated standdown costs to support the longstanding relationship and minimise project impacts. Through proactive planning and disciplined execution, the works were completed safely, to specification and within budget, achieving a high-quality pavement outcome with zero safety incidents.
